Instructions For Backdrop Lights

Starlight Backdrop – Operating Instructions

There are three ways to control the Starlight Backdrop lighting system:

Control Options

1. Remote (simple): set a solid colour, pick a basic mode, adjust speed/brightness.
2. Supplied phone (recommended): full control via the LED LAMP app (210+ modes, voice/music reactive, colour wheel).
3. Your phone (optional): only needed if you want to play music from your phone through the app (see “Music mode”).

1. Remote Control

Simple and convenient, the remote control offers:

  • Solid colours: Red, Green, Blue, White, Yellow, Orange, Cyan, Violet

  • Modes: 10 preset effects (Use the up and down arrows to move through different modes)

  • Voice: 4 sound-reactive options

  • Speed: Quick / Slow = animation speed

  • Brightness: Up / Down

  • “A” with circular arrows: Auto – cycles through effects automatically

Tip: Use the remote for quick colour changes and simple effects; use the app for the full range and for the full size 6x3m backdrop so that the lights are in-sync.

2. Mobile App on the Provided Phone

Best option especially for Large Backdrops (6m x 3m)

We supply a mobile phone with the LED LAMP DMX App pre-installed. This gives you access to:

  • Over 210 lighting modes

  • Expanded music-reactive settings

  • Endless colour combinations

  • Greater control over speed, brightness, and sync

Recommended for large setups with 2 light sets — ensures both sets remain perfectly synchronised, unlike using two separate remotes.

Using The App

Home page tabs

  • Colour: choose a solid shade from the colour wheel; adjust brightness.

  • Mode: pick from 210 moving effects; adjust speed and brightness.

  • Custom: choose custom colours (rarely needed); then select a mode.

  • Music:

    • Voice mode (recommended): reacts to DJ/band/live music in the room. Set Sensitivity to 100%.

    • Music mode (optional): only if you’re playing music from your phone inside the app. Requires installing the LED LAMP app on your own device. Most events won’t need this.

Option 3 - Install The App & Play Music Through Your Mobile Phone (optional)

3. Install the App on Your Own Device (skip this section if you are happy to use the remote or the App on the phone provided)

Only necessary if you want to play music directly from your phone to sync with the lights. This option gives you all the same features as the provided mobile device: Full access to modes, colours, and music-reactive effects. Ability to play your own music through the app for direct sound syncing. Note: If you simply want the lights to react to music from your DJ or band, you do not need to use your own phone — the provided device with voice-reactive mode will handle this automatically.

COLOUR TAB

  • Choose a solid colour for your lights.

  • Run your finger around the colour wheel to pick your shade.

  • Use the brightness slider to make the lights softer or brighter.

  • Perfect if you want to match your décor theme (for example blush pink, sage green, or classic white).

💡 Tip: Use the Colour tab for elegant, static lighting during meals, speeches, or quieter parts of the event.

MODE TAB - Popular Presets

Click on the Mode tab at the bottom of the App and scroll through the options from 1 to 210, here are some popular choices:

White modes (perfect for receptions/speeches): 37, 38, 55, 56, 93, 100, 107, 120, 121 or just choose static white lights.

7-colour party modes (rainbow): 3, 4, 23–24, 39–40, 57–58, 69–70, 75, 78, 81, 122–123, 147–160

You can use the sliders to adjust Speed and Brightness.

Tip: Speed low = elegant. Speed medium/high = party energy.

Quick Tips

  • Start on White during the meal → switch to 7-colour or Voice for dancing.

  • Lower brightness for ambience, full brightness for bold effects.

CUSTOM TAB (rarely used)

  • The Custom tab lets you create your own, unique colour combinations.

  • Tap the snake-like bars to choose which sections of the lights you want to customise.

  • Use the colour wheel to pick your preferred shade(s).

  • Tap a bar to add a colour.

  • Hold your finger down on a bar to delete a colour.

  • Confirm your choice, then select a mode (Forward, Reverse, Change, or Cycle) to see the colours in action.

  • Tip: This feature is rarely needed — most people use the preset Colour or Mode options, but it’s available if you’d like something very personalised.

MUSIC TAB

  • In the Music tab you can choose between Voice or Music:

    • Voice Mode (recommended) – lights react to sound from your DJ or live band. This is the easiest and most effective option for parties and weddings. Set the sensitivity slider to 100% for the best effect.

    • Music Mode (optional) – only works if you play music directly from your phone inside the LED LAMP app. You’ll need to install the app on your own device. Most customers won’t need this, as Voice Mode works perfectly with live music.

  • Tip: For almost all events, Voice Mode is the one to use.

Quick Tips

  • 💍 Weddings: Use White modes (37, 38, 55, 56, 93, 100, 107, 120, 121) for a clean, elegant look.

  • 🎉 Parties: Switch to 7-Colour modes or Voice mode for dancing and energy.

  • 🎵 Voice mode: Best with a DJ or band — set sensitivity to 100%.

  • 🔄 Remote “A” button: Auto mode — lights cycle through effects automatically.

  • ⏱ Speed: Slower = elegant, Faster = lively.

  • ☀️ Brightness: Lower = ambience, Higher = bold effect.

  • 🔌 Signal tip: The USB plug is the receiver. Signals usually pass through the curtains, but if the lights don’t respond:

  • Move a little closer

  • Point the remote or phone directly towards the USB port (usually behind the curtains).

What to Expect on the Day

When we set up your backdrop lights for a wedding or event, they will usually be left on solid white lighting as a classic, elegant starting point (unless you’ve requested something different).

You’ll find a pack with the remote control and the phone pre-loaded with the LED LAMP app — either handed to the venue staff or placed discreetly just behind the right or left side of the curtain, depending on the setup.

This way, everything is ready to go, and you can easily switch to your preferred settings during the evening.

FAQs

Do I need to install the app on my own phone?
No – we supply a phone with the app pre-loaded. You only need to install it on your own device if you want to use Music mode (playing music directly from your phone inside the app).

How close do I need to be to use the remote or app?
Stay within a few metres of the USB plug/receptor (the power supply connection) for reliable control.

What’s the difference between Voice mode and Music mode?

  • Voice mode (recommended): reacts to sound from your DJ or band in real time.

  • Music mode: only works if you play music through the LED LAMP app on your phone. Most people won’t need this.

Which modes are best for weddings?
Use the White modes (37, 38, 55, 56, 93, 100, 107, 120, 121) for speeches and meals. Then switch to 7-Colour or Voice modes for the evening party.

What if I only want one solid colour?
Go to the Colour tab in the app, or use the colour buttons on the remote to set a static colour.

The lights aren’t responding – what should I do?
Remember, the USB plug is the signal receiver. Signals usually pass through the curtains, but if the lights don’t respond:

  • Move a little closer

  • Point the remote or phone towards the USB plug (normally tucked behind the curtains)

  • Check the USB is fully connected to the power supply

How will the lights be set up for my wedding?
We normally set the backdrop lights to solid white as a default, unless you’ve requested another option. The remote and pre-loaded phone will be left in a pack — either with the venue staff or placed just behind the right or left side of the curtain, depending on the setup.
